“There is no tradition more important than honoring those who gave everything they had in the defense of this country,” said Brigadier General Maria Gervais at Fort Leonard Wood’s Chemical Memorial Grove. She was speaking at the ceremony for a monument dedicated to soldiers who have fallen during Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. These men and women gave their lives for their country without any hesitation. In the presence of the monuments and memorials, it is hard to forget and easy to be humbled by their sacrifices. Veteran Corps of America is not only honored to have witnessed the ceremony, we are very proud to say two VCA teammates have strong personal ties to the community. Donnie Moten and Bobby Williams had the privilege of ringing the bell in memory of the 24 soldiers being honored, and they personally knew many of them. Moten was the Proponent SGM from 2000–2002 and Williams worked as the Operations NCO for the 84th Chemical Battalion from 2002–2004. Both men are involved in the senior leadership of the Chemical Corps—Bobby as the CCRA Ozark Chapter President and Donnie as resident “gray beard".
